WINNER of the 2001 AWARD:

Our winner this year is Kelly Fleming. Kelly met our standards of being a top scholar, with her high SAT scores, excellent grades and high class rank. She is a member of the National Honor Society, International Language Club, Science Club, as well as being a volunteer at Sacred Heart Church. Her hope is to attend Fordham University, Bently College, University of Hartford or UMass Dartmouth. 

Kelly is also an excellent athlete, being a member of the varsity field hockey and softball teams. She also served as Captain of the LHS softball team, made numerous traveling softball teams, and won the James Martin Softball Award. She plans to play softball during college.

Kelly's softball coach, Richard O'Brien, writes:

• “Kelly is a leader, by example, both in the classroom and on the softball field… Very coachable…Listens…Interacts well with teammates and classmates…Is an articulate spokeswoman and outstanding example for our program…Is intelligent, mature, responsible and hard  working. "
• …All her teachers have only the highest praise for her intelligence and her outstanding work ethic. She brings those same traits to the softball filed. Kelly is a student of the game. She constantly strives to improve and is always willing to put in the time and effort needed to succeed. She is a captain who truly wants her team to do well…"
• I am convinced that in her future endeavors, she will continue to succeed. Like Brian Reynolds, she will be a credit to Lowell High, her college, and her career choices. She is an outstanding young woman."

  We are very happy with the selection of Kelly, and wish her continued success in her academics, her athletics, and in life.
